About this site.
PTO Payout Calculator is an independent, free tool built and maintained by Yogesh, a developer & researcher. It exists to answer one question clearly: what is your unused PTO actually worth after tax, and does your state require it to be paid?
Who runs it
I'm Yogesh. I built this calculator and compiled the per-state law and tax data myself from primary government sources. I'm not a lawyer or an accountant, so nothing here is legal, tax, or financial advice — it's a well-sourced estimate to help you understand your situation before you talk to your employer or a professional.
How the data is researched
Tax figures come from official sources: IRS Publication 15 for the supplemental wage rate, the Social Security Administration for the wage base, and each state's labor department for payout rules. Every state page cites the specific statute it relies on. The exact formulas are documented on the methodology page.
How often it's updated
Rates and state-law data are re-checked against the primary sources and updated when they change. The current data was last reviewed May 31, 2026, shown in the byline on every calculator and guide. If you spot something out of date or wrong, please tell me.
Privacy
Every calculation runs in your browser. Your salary, hours, and other inputs are never sent to or stored on a server.
